Benson, the 2005 captain, was a first team All-Ivy and second team NSCAA Northeast Region selection as a senior. She started all 20 games and helped anchor a Yale defense that allowed only 16 goals. Her one goal was the game-winner in overtime against St. John's. Benson also was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team selection. As a junior she earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition. She helped anchor a Yale defense that allowed only 15 goals and posted nine shutouts. Her only goal came in the season opener, a 4-1 victory at UMass. Benson returned to Yale after playing for the Greece national team that competed in the 2004 Olympics. In 2002, she was a major contributor for the Bulldogs, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points. Her top performance came against Holy Cross when she scored twice. As a freshman, Benson started 12 games. At E.O. Smith High School, Benson was a three time all-conference selection and was named All-New England and all-state as a senior.
