Grant Catalino had four goals and three assists as the No. 7 University of Maryland men's lacrosse team handed Yale a 16-10 loss in the season finale for the Bulldogs before 1,309 at College Park.
Four other Terrapin players hit the net twice as the home team broke open a 3-2 game with seven straight goals before taking an 11-4 lead into intermission.
Brendan Gibson had three goals, Tyler Casertano had a goal and three assists and Davis Lindsey chipped in a pair of goals as the Elis finished the 2008 season at 4-10 overall. Casertano finished his Yale career with points in each of his last 41 games.
Gregory DuBoff, who won 13 of 28 faceoffs, also had a career-best, two-goal day. Matt Fuchs and Kyle Washabaugh had the other Bulldog scores.
Maryland, which improved to 9-5 overall and hopes to get an invitation to the NCAA Tournament, outshot Yale 38-33 and won 17 of the 30 faceoffs. The Terrapins have now won eight straight against the Blue and have an .873 winning percentage against Ivy League schools.
Three different UM goalies combined to make 11 saves while Yale used two seniors between the pipes. George Carafides made seven stops and allowed 13 of the 16 goals over the first 48 minutes before Joe Costa, who had one save, finished off the contest. Carafides ended his collegiate career with starts in all 53 Yale games during his tenure.
The Bulldogs, who managed to tally 10 goals in two of its last three games, outshot the Terps 10-9 in the first quarter but trailed 5-2 after goals from five different UM players. By the time Washabaugh notched the next Yale goal, the score was already 10-3 late in the second period.
The Blue, playing its second game of the year on CBS College Sports television, converted two of its three extra-man chances and had one more (38-37) ground ball than the Terps.
