NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The book "Remembering Murray Murdoch -- Yale Hockey 1948-1952" by Harry W. Havemeyer '52 is now on sale through the Yale Hockey Association. The book is the story of the Yale hockey team from the Class of 1952's freshman year in 1948-1949 until their final varsity season in 1951-1952, when Yale was selected for the Final Four NCAA Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo., and finished third. It was the first Yale hockey team ever to have been selected for that event and only one other, the 1997-1998 team, has been chosen since.
Murray Murdoch, coach of the 1951-1952 team, came to Yale in 1938, coached hockey for 27 years until his retirement in 1965, and achieved an outstanding record of 278 victories during that time. In describing the role Murray played in building and guiding this team, which he described as "a team with great balance and depth", the author and his teammates honor the memory of their coach.
Harry W. Havemeyer, author of three books on Long Island history, was the captain of the 1951-1952 hockey team and lives on Long Island with his wife Eugénie.
The book is available for $20.00 (includes shipping and handling) through the Yale Hockey Association.
