Will Engasser, the captain of the 2007-08 Yale men's hockey team, competed for the East at the 2008 Frozen Four Skills Competition at Denver's Pepsi Center tonight. The West defeated the East 13-6. The third annual skills competition, sponsored by Nike/Bauer, was televised live by ESPNU.
Engasser, wearing No. 14 in red for the East, competed in three different individual events, the hardest shot, shooting accuracy and the shootout. He did not win any of the events but represented Yale well. Engasser, who was in the fifth heat of each event, had an 88.7 mph shot, hit two targets and almost slid one past a West goalie in his one shootout attempt.
Engasser and 29 other senior collegiate players were wined and dined and showered with equipment and gifts by Nike/Bauer. He was joined by three other ECAC men on the East squad; Jordan Alford and Jake Morissette of Rensselaer and Union's Justin Mrazek.
The coaches for the East were ECAC men's travel partners Seth Appert of Rensselear and Union's Nate Leaman. Enrico Blasi (Miami) and George Gwozdecky (Denver) served as the West coaches.
